Read Acts 1
On this day of Pentecost a church was born.
As you read in this passage 120 believers, including the apostles were locked away in the upper room from fear because 10 days earlier Jesus had ascended to heaven and they were like lost sheep without a shepherd. But just like Jesus had promised, on this day the Holy Spirit came and baptized them, with the evidence of speaking in other tongues.
The Holy Spirit was reported to look like tongues of fire upon each of their heads. And people had reported that they appeared to be drunk.
As those 120 people spilled out into the streets, crowds began to gather to see what was going on.
It was that day that 3000 came to receive Christ as their Savior.
What a birthday!
So about 2015 years later, where does this church stand today?!
In Canada our population in 35,702,707. And for the purpose on this post that is where we going to focus on.
Population in BC is 4,659,000. That is still a lot of people.
In the Cowichan/Ladysmith electoral district the population is 50,400. Which is getting a little more manageable, but still a lot of souls!
In stats for 2001, BC was the only province that had ‘no religion’ as the most frequent response, which at that time was 35 percent of our population. As well as a decline of 11 percent (1.2 million) not going to church.
All I can say is OUCH!!!!
That is a lot of people that have turned from God or has never had a relationship with Him.
Those figures that I shared today is ‘in our back yard’. Not to mention the numbers of the entire world.
This means, our MISSION field is HUGE…………..
Its time for us to spill out into the streets of our towns and be contagious Christians. Take the example of those 120 on the day of Pentecost.
Recieve the Holy Spirit and His help and BE BOLD!
